How do I rent if my husband is bankrupt?

Hi All,
My husband was made bankrupt in June 2018. Obviously this is going to make it difficult for us to rent due to letting agencies doing credit checks. I however have a great credit history and we have been with our current landlord for 5 years and have never defaulted on a payment. My husband has a stable job and i am currently a full time stay at home mother. Is there anyway around this problem as its only the bankruptcy on my husbands file that is holding us back from renting. We cannot get a guarantor at all and we definitely cant afford 6 months rent upfront. Can anyone give advice?

I would suggest that you rent solely in your own name but as a SAHP I doubt you will meet affordability on your own.
With no guarantor and not being able to offer rent upfront you're going to be a tough sell. Look for properties advertised directly by landlords instead of via letting agencies who tend to have a "computer says no" attitude. Be upfront about the bankruptcy before handing any money over for referencing.
Is there any chance you can continue renting your current home?0 -
Theres no problem with renting our current house the only reason we want to move is to get away from awful neighbours.0

rent in your own name, he joins you as a guest basically.0

Your credit rating is presumably good because you relied on your husband's money? If he is bankrupt, and he is your source of money, i am not sure that there should be a way of getting around this. If i were a landlord, i would not want to let to you to be honest.0

Save up 6 months' rent, then rent as sole tenant.0

Try a private landlord instead of a letting agency, they tend to look at each case individually.
Get a reference from your current landlord too.0 -

That's helpful!
Or you could say that she is enabling the husband to work shield she looks after his children. She has already stated he has a stable job now.0 -
Does your landlord have other properties that would be available in the coming months.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0
