Insurance and dvla
Hi guys,
Me and my partner were left baffled today and we need some help. Last week we bought a Honda CR-v advertised on autotrader. We did some checks and it came all clean (Mot, hpi). We insured it and taxed with no problem.
All was good until we got a letter from dvla which says that insurance company informed them that the car is cat A and we have to scrap it and they won’t register it.
We rang Admiral to ask what is it about and they said they don’t do checks to see what category car is and they believe the client when they say car is good to use! And that they definitely didn’t send any letters do dvla. But because my bf told them about the letter they now said the policy is cancelled (so we can’t use the car at all).
We then rang dvla and we’ve been said that dvla doesn’t do any checks on car and rely on information they get from insurer! I was livid already! We got back to Admiral and again they said it wasn’t a letter from them, we should find out who was previous insurer and they can’t insure the car anymore. They said they don’t share any data with other companies and they have no info about our car being cat A except from my bf told them.
We are really stuck now, what is it all about? Thanks for any helpful tips.

Cat a is normally applied to burnt out cars or ones in very serious accidents which result in biological contamination or very extreme damage.
The most likely explanation is a different car was written off and the reg has been entered wrong.
The people to contact to get this sorted are
https://www.mib.org.uk/managing-insurance-data/mib-managed-services/cue-miaftr/
They will contact the insurer who entered the registration on miaftr to get it corrected. Your insurer should not have cancelled until the matter had been investigated.0 -
Thank you! We will be contacting them in the morning. Hopefully that’s the case!0
