Just now, an e-mail that I sent with photos attached did not get to the recipient. I forwarded the e-mail again, and still not arrived.

I don't know whether that was a coincidence, but...

THEN, whilst away from my laptop, a piercing "beep" came from my laptop, and I returned to see "pop-ups" on the screen saying it was from Microsoft Windows 10, and that a virus threat had been found in my files.

There was a kind of "countdown", by seconds, really quickly, and it said I hadn't updated my Windows 10 security and that I had about 20 seconds to download a correction tool, or something, and stop the action before they deleted all of my files to avoid any/further virus infection.

I tried to stop it, and then went into my "security" settings and each of the "logos" stated that it was all alright. I ran a scan on the Windows(?) logo, and it said all of my files were fine, too.

I returned to the pop-ups and copied the web addresses, which are as follows:

You

Once I could read the above, I felt sure, then, that it WAS a scam, and so -

first, I don't know whether anything has been infected on my pc, and
second, I thought I should warn anyone else, in case it is definitely a scam, and happens to you.

  • Most ISPs provide internet protection these days. Sky and BT provide McCaf!. If you have these installed, you would not be taken for a ride!

    If not?

    Tough.

Why would anyone here want to follow those links you've just posted. Please remove them.
  • P0123,
please edit your post to remove the complete link otherwise unsuspecting or inexperienced users could click on it and end up with exactly the same problems or worries that you have.

    Rubbish.

one of 2 things has happened here ..

Either the OP has had a popup within a browser that is displaying fake warnings trying to panick the user into following the instructions ..

    Or

User has a malware infection that is slinging these popups.

Any antivirus solution is useless to prevent either of those.

As suggested above OP, just run a quick scan with malwarebytes and the ADW cleaner to rid yourself of any malware that you may have - nothing has been hacked and you dont need to worry.

There is also no point in warning people about this specific one as it is nothing new and people should already know to not believe anything that pops up in a window on your computer..
