Bad credit and Barclays Bank

Options
Some years ago I filed a summons against Barclays Bank for excessive charges. The bank fought the case and for nearly 2 years they kept telling me I wouldn't win. Two days before the court date they phoned me and offered a full refund of all charges (over £6k) providing I sign a 'confidentiality clause', I said no, the money was mine and i refused to sign anything and hung up. Within minutes they phoned back and agreed, I was so thankful they caved in. But during the two years more charges had accrued, I started another claim but then everything was put on hold because the major banks were fighting against refunds in court. The banks had lost the case twice but appealed each time. The third time they found a sympathetic (or bought) judge and won. By this time I had changed banks and left Barclays with an unpaid overdraft. In my view they still owed me more than I owed them. I've had a bad credit rating from them ever since. Now they have written to me apologising for their past behaviour and offered me a nominal sum as compensation. The bad reference is still active, Question, should I go back over the statements and ask for more or just take what they're offering?

What exactly is the bad reference?...I would want any 'bad reference' to be removed as part of the compensation deal...

  • Why do the charges exist?

Is it due to unpaid debt?

I see no reason for the markers on your credit file to be removed regardless of the charges being refunded
