I wouldn't worry about it affecting your potential mortgage application. It will make the application process slightly longer, but shouldn't affect the end result.

And besides, fraudulent credit applications will definitely affect your credit file.. All the more reason to protect yourself

On Noddle the application was checked by 118118 on 14th October. I can't see any other applications but will keep an eye on that as well as Clearscore.

They have my title incorrect in the application and that is also incorrect in one of my accounts. Might help me track down how it happened but I am now thinking it could be some dodgy wifi as I use my iPhone in public places for email and banking. Or it could be part of the Facebook data breach. Almost impossible to trace!

Installed Avast antivirus yesterday. It is now saying my router isn't secure and I need advanced option (ie paying them) to secure it..

Bit worrying if my home pc is being hacked into - and my iphone. Possibly by someone nearby who could pick up a credit card if I don't get it first. Just thinking of the different scenarios..

Ps also went into Lloyds today and that account that was put in my name for paying the 118 card is a business account. They are investigating.

    .Hi again

I contacted 118 as they allowed someone to fraudulently use my data to open a credit card. I am trying to find out how much data they gave so that I can protect myself more in future. This was their response today:

I acknowledge your Subject Access Request and this has been logged as DSAR reference xxx

As you believe this account was opened fraudulently we are unable to provide any further details at this time. However, we will be happy to provide any evidence that the police may request as part of your Action Fraud case. Please pass the following contact details to Action Fraud:

I did report it to Action fraud so I could jump through these hoops but it seems ludicrous that they used my info so lightly before that someone opened a card, and now they are so strict that I can't do a subject access request!! Action Fraud isn't taking it further because no money was taken. It was identity theft, not identity fraud.

Hi, we have had a personal loan and 4 payday loans taken in my wife's name. Experian raised an investigation and also the companies involved. Experian have now responded on one of the accounts to say the information is accurate and so nothing they can do. The accounts are linked to bank accounts that are not ours, so the implication is now the loans are in default, we are liable and can do nothing about it. Action Fraud say ID theft is not a reportable crime.
There seems to be no-one who will help - what can we do?

Hi Guys. First time on here so not sure if I'm in the right place!!
Ok, I really need a bit of advice on identity fraud too.
I split up from my husband & moved out of my home in Birmingham UK November 2014 & moved over to Australia, where I now live, the beginning of December 2014.
I was Skyping my parents last week & they sad they had a letter that had arrived for me. I told them to open it & read it to me. It was from a debt collector (Lowell) & said that I owed £232.17 for goods I'd bought from a catalogue ("Look Again").
I've never even heard of this catalogue, never mind bought anything from them. (In fact I've never bought anything from ANY catalogue EVER!!). I rang the debt collector to see what it was all about & explain it couldn't be me.
He confirmed that the transaction was made in December 2014- after I left UK. It was ordered from my old address. He asked me about the email address used to order the goods & it was not mine, but I recognised it as it is my ex-husband's!
Looks like he has used my name to order goods & not pay for them! I am soooo angry! He has a history of gambling & often got us into debt because of this. He was also very sneaky & untrustworthy (as I found out on many occasions hence me divorcing him!).
Thing is. this was 4 years ago & they have only just sent this letter (not sure where they got my parent's address from). I am now worried that this is the tip of the iceberg & there will be more similar letters to follow if he's tried other catalogues etc!
I have reported it to Action Fraud, but apparently it's not a police crime. I did think of trying Experian etc credit agencies to see if any other debts are in my name, but fining it difficult registering as I've lived in Australia over 4 years now so don't have a UK address and I only really want to find out the past 4 years history.
Where do I stand?- will I be liable for this debt even though I can prove I am in Australia? I' very worried, as are my parents!:(
Can I take action against him? I really want him brought to justice if I can!
    Debbie
