Wifi Plug / Broadband problem?
Comments

I used to use TP Powerline adaptors & tried for many months to get them working properly.
My house has an upstairs ring main & a downstairs ring main & the signal kept dropping out randomly.
Really annoying.
I never did find out what used to cause the drop of signal.
Put a cheap WiFi card in my desktop & never had a single drop off again.0 -
Yes, i think you're right RE: the electrical blip.
I'm fairly stuffed on ethernet cable front because of the shape and size of the house. I think it would need to run maybe 80-100 ft round the edges of four rooms including a long hall to get to where we need it.
I think running Ethernet cable would be the best bet especially if you want to stream from the internet and internally; 20Mbps is a pretty poor speed for this. You could run the cable in the loft and even have a wireless access point in the loft which would give you much better speeds without any visible cables.0 -

If it were a regular shaped house then yes there would be options but its not.
The upstairs floors are concrete and have underfloor heating so going through the ceiling from downstairs isnt an option.
With the shape of the house theres no consistent roofspace to run cables through - where it would go through from the other end of the house would be in to a 1 1/2 story area with eves, theres no link between the eves and the next two story section of the house, theres no access to the roofspace in that section, it links to the main house which is two story, so theres a roofspace there but where it needs to get to in the kitchen block has a vaulted ceiling. All concrete floors with underfloor heating upstairs and downstairs.
Most of the downstairs has tiled floors so no ability to run under the edge of carpets, and no scope for going out with a cable and tacking it around the outside without it being noticable.
So i'm fairly stuffed.
I think Mesh is the most viable option, as i dont want to put a second line / fibre broadband in to the main block of the house.0 -
