Talk Talk won’t back date bill to date of death

Hello, apologies if this has been discussed before, I went through the other threads but couldn’t find any reference to my question.
Situation
We didn’t not know dad had a Talk Talk account. Three months after his death we found out, so we wrote to them to advise them of his death and provided a death certificate. They have been very polite but have told us that they will only back date dad’s bill to the date they closed the account, not to the date of his death.
Question
Can they do this or do we have a legal leg to stand on to insist they back date to dad’s date of death?
Many thanks

Did you speak to the normal billing people or their bereavement team?
If the former call the latter.

Sound advice but from a legal standpoint they can charge until given notice.Keep_pedalling wrote: »Did you speak to the normal billing people or their bereavement team?

As yorkshireman says, they are entitled to bill until they got notice, but it may be worth checking whether they have a bereavements team and trying to see whether they will budge at all as a gesture of goodwill. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0

I would hope bereavements team would override it and put it back to date of death.
I got account closed with severn trent (OK so not a phone company) and they (without being asked to) retrospectively closed it back to the date of hospital admission which was a month before death.0 -
Good point. The difficulty is that there is no standard answer. A great pity as it causes much extra grief.Flugelhorn wrote: »I would hope bereavements team would override it and put it back to date of death.
