Home network problem

This one has me confused. I'm trying to (re)set up a network after a crash, but my main PC won't let me view any workgroup computers. The error box message is :

" (workgroup) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"

The daft thing is that I AM logged in as an administrator.

The laptop shows itself on the network but not the main PC, even though both computers have the same workgroup name.

Anyone got any ideas please?

Sounds like the firewall on the workstation you are trying to connect to is blocking your attempt, disable the firewall temporarily to confirm this on 1 machine at a time and see which one makes things work.

Thanks John, I will give it a go.

Would a firewall really stop a PC from being able to see itself in a workgroup, or indeed the workgroup details?

It would stop other pc's from seeing it and any network traffic would be ignored including broadcast messages.

You're a star. It looks like you've solved my problem here. Thank you very much.
