Well done for thinking about what your MIL would like:A
We have a duck breast each ,roast potatoes, carott, swead mash, brocili ,gravy and red currant sauce followed bi little sticky toffee pusings al a Deilia. Gran is a diabetic so while she enjoys all of these things she needs only small ammounts so we lay the table so it gleams with white, silver & glass and serve everthing in tureens (clear cassarole dish's from woolies;) ) and she helps herself.Im not a big fan of any pud so we share one.
I found very early on that its much easier if guests help themselves (unless they are piggies:rolleyes: ) no one feels uncomfortuble a little or a bit more somehow its also more relaxed for me:p :rotfl:Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0 -
I just can't seem to get roasts right in my oven now I've moved out: it's electric and I never did get on with electric ovens
My chickens seem to be too tough these days, does anynoe have any tips so I can iron this out before I get my turkey crown from Christmas?

Have you tried using an oven thermometer to find out if your oven has any hotspots? I was gutted when we moved house and completely lost the ability to bake, only to discover it was because our new oven was running 2 full gas marks higher than the dial was set
If they are tough they are probably drying out too much, do you open roast or cover with foil/lid?0 -
I usually cook it in a pyrex roasting dish with lid, as it always served me well in the past (plus oven is too small for a deent size roasting tin!). I will check temperature as cakes and biscuits have been a bit random too with this oven. Thanks for the tip0

Everyone else insists on pulling Christmas crackers but I think they're a waste of money.
OT, i know, but - bought ones: yes, i agree with you. I make my own, and tailor the gift for each person. But apart from that..:eek: saw in Matalan the other day: giant christmas crackers, about a foot long. £6!!!:eek: what on *earth* for?!

I have only ever had to make a dinner myself once as every year I manage to go elsewhere to save me the hassle.
This year my brother phoned up the parents really excited - he is coming home for Christmas and can't wait for the big family party. He was sooooo disappointed when he found out my sis, BIL and kids are going away for the festive and I am nightshift. At least I am now going for dinner/breakfast when I get up late in the day and not sitting OH and I down to egg butties!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

My DIL par boils parsnip battons, is that what they're called, drains them then when cool enough she rolls them in parmesan cheese before roasting them as usual deliciousNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0
