Christmas Dinner

O.K who is having a huge Chirstmas dinner, and who is going to be more laid back?
I am not sure what to do, as the MIL is coming, and she has been quite ill with breast cancer, so iam thinking more toward a buffet style lunch, as her appetitie is awful, and i wouldn't like to shove a cooked dinner in front of her if she can't cope.

Suggestions please?

  • I am having the huge give me a sore stomach later greedy pig dinner:rotfl::rotfl:

A great idea having a buffet then everyone can choose what they want and a kind thought for your MIL as you say may feel obliged to eat all that was put on plate.
I had a buffet a few years ago as had a few over and everyone enjoyed it,made all the starters and then they helped themselves had a small joint of turkey,Ham,roast potatoes, boiled potatoes, sprouts, pea's,cranberry sauce usual stuff.

Hope you have a good day:T

me and my son are going out for dinner on christmas day with my best mate and all her family, it's setting me back £60 for the both of us but it's either that or stay at home on our own, or go to my sisters cramped flat where there will be a neeborn and loads of people, not my idea of fun!

our first baby is due a week and a half before christmas, but i love christmas dinner so much that i can't do without it and i don't think anyone cooks it as well as dh and I do, so we've arranged for my mum and stepdad to come over after their dinner to coo over the baby while we get some sleep and have dinner. I have already made some of it, the red cabbage dish, homemade stuffing and pigs in blankets are frozen all ready to go and we will make the roasties and 'snips on christmas eve, so all that we will have to do on the day is cook the turkey and the veg, warm stuff up and open a jar of cranberry sauce.

Maybe you could do a scaled down version of christmas dinner, just a simple roast that won't be so much pressure for her?

  • We're doing Gammon & Chicken this year as we dont really like Turkey.

We always have the same and is no real difference to our Sunday Roasts:

    Gammon/Chicken
    Pigs In Blankets
    Roasties & Mash
    Parsnips
    Swede/Carrot Mash
    Sprouts
    Yorkshire Pudding
    Stuffing
    Proper Gravy

Im salivating just thinking of it.

  • My dad will be with us for Christmas this year (well hopefully) he has terminal lung cancer and his appetite is really poor. I am going to do a traditional dinner and just let him help himself to what he wants. Even though his appetite is really bad he would be very disappointed if he didnt have some turkey and cranberry sauce!

Why not do it the American way and put all your food on serving dishes in the middle of the table? That way MIL, and everyone else, can have exactly as much as they want. :D
