Electricity

What is average price for fixed electricity per kw and standing charge with VAT.at the moment. Am sick to death of all comparison sites telling me how much I shall save and when worked out, do not save me at all.
Kw price and standing charge is all I need and I can do the rest

What others are paying, unless they live in your region, is irrelevant. In fact kWh and daily charge on their own are also irrelevant. The comparison sites list in low to high order how much it will cost you per year on the annual consumption you input, the same as you would do working it out yourself. Ignore the savings or at least set the search engine to compare with your current tariff.

Mine 11.456p/kwh plus 21.762p/day with Eversmart until next September but it's not available any more.(thats an annual average of 12.6p/kwh)

I'm more than happy to pay the slightly higher s/c as i use over 7000kwh a year, so cheaper units are better than a low s/c

But as molerat says do your own sums rather than just looking at the savings.

Which 'average' do you mean?
Expect to pay somewhere between about 10p and 22p per kWh
Standing charges can be as little as 0p per day, but I have seen some as much as 50p per day.

Not sure how that assists you though, so get the sick bucket ready, and consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you ;)
(You can ignore the savings indicated if that is what causes you the nausea - just look at the annual costs of all the tariffs on offer)
  • Many thanks for answering. Am at the end of my SPower and they have really been the pits with customer service. Was thinking of going to no standing charge Equipower and paying more for kw. Has anyone else had experience with them? Are we all being ripped off?
In answer to my own question, yes we are. What is the answer?:o

I've been with Ebico on their zero standing charge tariff for a few years and not experienced any problems myself, although since they partnered with RHE the customer service is reported to be worse.

But you've possibly left it too late as the original Zero tariff has had the plug pulled. It isn't entirely clear whether the replacement is as good.

But as others have said, use a price comparison site (one which includes Ebico if you like) and see what comes out the cheapest (ignoring their irritating 'you can save' messages ;))

You really need to look at your consumption in kwh to see whether a high standing charge/low kwh tariff would suit better than a lower or nil standing charge/higher kwh tariff.

Generally they seem to balance out at around the average consumption of around 3500kwh of leccy and 12500 gas. As suggested use the comparison sites, ignore the "how much you'll save" and just look at how much it will cost.

Put in your annual consumption (hopefully you'll have the info either on your bills or in your own records). Do several comparisons with plus 10% of your consumption and -10% to see if it makes much difference.

Picking the wrong tariff could cost me over £400 a year more
