Confused.com free fuel offer - is it a con?

Last week I purchased a new car insurance deal with Hastings Premier through Confused.com.
They advertise a free £20 fuel voucher for any new insurance purchase, so I returned to their webiste and attempted to make my claim, only for my claim to fail (received some message about "try again in a few minutes"). I returned after 10 minutes and claimed again (it knew I have clicked through to Hastings, it was all recorded on the Confused website), only to receive the same message. I returned regularly over the next two days and went through the same process, only to get the same message every time (Sorry, we're unable to submit your claim at the moment. Please try again in a few minutes).

Having checked the terms & conditions on the Confused website, and not having received any confirmatory email within 48 hours, I completed an online form at Confused advising of my issue. This I did 5 days ago and they appear to have completely ignored my complaint and my original claim.

I have now emailed them so I have a record of my communication.

My question is, is this whole thing a con? Have others run into the same problem or am I unusual?

    Hi PathManSlough,

We’re sorry you experienced difficulty redeeming your £20 free Texaco fuel reward. It appears there was a technical error, which affected a limited amount of customers. This has now been resolved.

If you are still experiencing any issues applying for the £20 fee Texaco fuel reward, please email communications@confused.com.

Once again, apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Kind Regards,
    The Confused.com support team

  • I took out insurance with in Sept 2019. I applied for the fuel voucher and had a confirmation email from them saying they would check my details. That was the last i ever heard from them. I have since contacted them 4 times by email and each time i have received the automatic reply about getting back in 5 working days. They have NEVER got back to me. Nearly 4 months and nothing.
