Single parent, universal credit and house deposit

I'm in the process of splitting up from partner. I'll become a single mom to two young kids.
I have a mortgage in principle, I need to apply for universal credit to prove benefits amount for mortgage, I'm to receive a lump sum from ex which will be the deposit, I'll buy a house and then move out of this house with the kids.
The problem is the deposit amount is larger than the savings amount I'm allowed under universal credit.
Does anyone know if there is anyway that I can still claim universal credit if I can prove the money is going straight into a house purchase?
Thanks so much, feeling very overwhelmed by everything right now

The amount can be disregarded for 6 months if it has been received due to the sale of your present house. Is this the case?

Amount to be used to purchase premises
H2119 Where a person has received an amount within the past 6 months which is to be used to purchase premises that the person intend to occupy as their home, that amount can be disregarded from the calculation of that person’s capital where it
    1. is attributable to the proceeds of the sale of premises formerly occupied as their home or
    2. has been deposited with a housing association (see H2045) or
    3. is a grant made to the person for the sole purpose of purchasing a home1.

  • Thanks very much for replying.
The money will not be from the proceeds of the sale of the house.
My ex owns the house outright and wouldn't put me on the deeds.
He will pay a sum of money to me as my part of the increase in value of the house as part of the split. We're not married but have been together 13years with two kids.
Do you think this would fit into that criteria?
  • 3.is a grant made...
What do you think grant means?
    Also, I've found
H2111 premises intended to be occupied
    2. Is taking steps to obtain possession and they began those steps within the past 6 months.
    Could possession mean purchase?
Thanks, think I might be clutching at straws!

This will be a gifted deposit from the children's father?

It is therefore a gift intended solely for the purchase of a home for you and his children.

Contact UC and ask how to proceed in these circumstances.

Has this arrangement been made through a solicitor/mediation or just between yourselves?

If it has been legally documented then it may be more easily presented to a decision maker from UC to make a decision to disregard this money.

How will this work in practice?

Is your ex partner selling the house or does he have the money to give to you for the deposit?

I am wondering if there is any way that the deposit money can be given directly from your ex to the solicitor for the purchase of the house therefore bypassing the need to have it in your bank account. I don't know whether this is possible?

Or are you intending to rent first and then use the money to find a house?
