Hi all,
Me and my wife are hopefully going to be trying for our first child soon and was wondering which benefits we would be able to claim. I have tried to look on different sites but its all very complicated and so many scenarios! I know we could claim Child Benefit but unsure what else.
When the baby arrives she would continue to work 30-37 hours as has a better wage and I would work about 16 hours per week as a delivery driver.
At present:
My wife earns approx 20k and i earn 17k
When the baby arrives:
She would work 30-37 hours and i would work about 16 hours and look after the baby.

Hi there. If you have tried different sites and finding it complicated, it's even more difficult for a member here to give you an answer. What sites have you tried? What part of the country do you live in? There seems to be 2 benefits on the go. Tax Credits and the Universal Credit.0

Use entitled2 or turn2us and work out the different ideas before inputting them.0

How much would your wages be when you are working part time? Will you have any childcare fees, or will you both be able to work around each other's hours so that there is no need for paid childcare?0 -
How long will she take off work? Who is going to look after child when your both at work. Have you looked at coatings for childcare? Will you be working just to pay for your child care so you can work.Mortgage free wannabe
Actual mortgage stating amount £75,150
Overpayment paused to pay off cc
Starting balance £66,565.45
Current balance £56099
Cc around £32000 -
Thanks for all your responses.
SMCG - I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne
Venison - Thanks for the sites to try.
Kingfisherblue- Probably around 10k before tax as would be doing about 16 hours per week and probably wont need any childcare as when i am delivering my / her mam would look after the child.
Sncjw - Probably 6 months she would take off work.0 -
If you will be earning around £30k between you, and have no childcare costs, then assuming that there is no disability I think that you are above the amounts for both working tax credits and child tax credits. The limit for WTC is around £18k, and the limit for CTC (no childcare, no disabilities) for one child is around £26k. However, there may be something due for the first year as your wife's earnings will be lower due to maternity leave. I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable than me can be more accurate.
If it is Universal Credit, I'm afraid I don't know the rules.0 -
Check what's in your area here, it may well be a full Universal credit area. I believe most of your area is. http://ucpostcode.entitledto.co.uk/ucdate if so than as stated you won't be able to claim tax credits.0
