Unemployment...it’s brutal...

Unemployment (voluntary) for me was absolutely fantastic.Well needed break from the stress of work. Saved up a bit of cash then couple of months travelling, then when I got back plenty of time to do the little things I've put off for so long, plus have time to do day trips, learn new things and so on. Felt a million times better afterwards. So for me it was an opportunity not a problem.0

I was in a similar position last year and actually had to move back home. I had a fairly succesful online business but it demanded alot of time due to very small profit margins and gave no real life added to that there were other problems with the business but it's not something I wanted to just drop so looked for a part time job to work alongside it. I went on an SIA security course for both security guard and CCTV. Within a week of recieiving my licence I had 3 job offers. One of which was working in a theatre 6 night a week. Good pay but no life. The one I selected and still work in involves security within certain schools. I would never consider working on the door of a nightclub but when people mention security it doesn't mean you have to be physically large and extremely fit. Viligance and a keen eye for spotting trouble before it occurs are just as important. I'm tall but not built and many of the guards I work with are not overly large, but our job is completely different to that of a doormen on a club or security for an event. Think of places of interest and the types of people that might attent when you apply for jobs as this will give you an insight into what you might face on the job. Security at a museum wouldbevery different to security in a hospital. They are tons of very different security jobs and many can be demanding jobs with longhours on your feet. If you prefer sitting at a desk there is always CCTV camera work in shopping centres or for the council etc. If you require something quick then you have to remember that a licence can take up to 4 weeks to come through after completing a course and you might not get your certificates through for passing your course for at least 2 weeks so in all you might have to give 6-8 weeks prior to seeking work once completing the course as you cannot work without a licence although you can apply for some positions online without a licence once you have been given acces to your security numbers on the SIA website.0
