Just wanted to express my thoughts!

I was on a teacher training course in Sept but decided it wasn’t for me and left officially on Friday. In reality, it’s been two weeks since I attended.

In that time, I’ve job searched, with little success. I have had one interview @ Tesco but haven’t heard back so it sure if I will get that job.

I’ve worked in schools for many years, support roles but there aren’t any vacancies for me to apply for right now!

I’m nearly 40, just signed on and with 3 kids feel desperate already! My days are so lonely, thankfully my partner has a p/t job and goes to Uni as we have a mortgage etc but even that I feel really guilty about.

Being unemployed is brutal, lonely and I’m not sure it’s going to be good for my mental health. How do people unemployed spend their days? I feel like I’m letting my family down badly...

It is not even half term yet, so you didn't gave the whole teacher training thing much of a chance...

I would have stuck with it until I found a plan B.

I found my teacher training SO difficult, but I am now in my 6th year of teaching and loving it!

Go volunteer in a school listening to children read.

Go help in your local charity shop.

Find a local organisation that does litter picking and go and clean up your street/village.

Sell some stuff on eBay to get some money.

Join a group like "Ami" that links up people with time to people (mainly elderly) in need of friendship/company/shopping being done etc...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Sleeping a lot, then the opposite and walking and keep home tidy, cooking from scratch. No excuses of not having the time really.

Went back to work, well should I say 'training course' inbetween speaking to the odd live customer, gained a friend or two, I don't know how I would have coped alone with the group who think they are so brainy but I've put on a stone easy. Twitch in the eye and excema on the scalp are two conditions I didn't get when unemployed. :(

I recently failed the test for a supermarket (the shame of it!) so I say you are winning getting a job interview. Keep your chin up, you never know what is round the corner. I got through two applications for rare hotel roles even though I could do without them seeing me like this as both are blasts from the past and back to where I started (it's turning into some weird journey alright) so otherwise I agree the job scene is dire. At the moment.

    Thanks all,

Applying for a few roles - and had an interview for a PT role, but havent heard back so looks unlikely.

Teacher Training is still an "option" with my UNI defering my place, I just felt i lacked the knowledge and understanding to complete so an intensive course right now and alongisde a few personal issues, I am didnt feel i could complete.

Hopefully I will find something ASAP!

Some great comments on here, made me feel better. Going to start running every other day, stay postive and see how it all plays out.

  • Why not do your Security badge...courses start as little as £99 in London and pretty much guaranteed pass.
Wages on the whole are crap..but lot of places you will get nearly a full shift to study if thats your bag or spend 12 hours on face book...whats not to like.:A

You mean SIA licence? That's a waste of time, you'll never get employed in as a security guard unless you're former military, previously worked in the police force or have a martial arts background with certificates/medals to show for it. Someone who's never worked in the security industry and don't have an appropriate background, simply studying a 3-5 day course with a multiple choice test is not going to prepare you to compete.

Both of my new starters are freshly badge guys and both have come from Job centre....in fact ive promoted one of the lads to a supervisor position as keen as mustard and switched on.

Unless of course your on a wind up and chatting nonsense and ive missed the joke....other wise step away from the keyboard as your clueless.

There could be opportunities on Fiverr or Upwork related to teaching. Youtube is usually a good source of advice.
  • Yes, it can be brutal - you can read up on my story back in 2013 on here:

I was hopeless (living hand-to-mouth) but I kept on persisting. You've got children and a family, so use that motivation to keep going and know what you are working for. :) You will get there!

Tons of agency work around, no need to be unemployed unless you're picky about what you do.

Don't worry, something will turn-up. I was on JSA for ages this year until I got my current role - albeit crap money, but it is literally on my doorstep so saving on transport. TBH, I was quite content being on the dole and used the time to brush up on my Javascript/PHP/Ajax, etc.

Have you registered with agencies for admin work? Don't know about your area, but my area always looking for admin staff.
