CRA & Faulty Laptop

Hi,
I bought a new laptop from Currys PC World 3 months ago which developed a fault (not booting, constant "preparing to repair" loop - quite common on google.
Anyway, took it back to Currys yesterday for exchange/repair/refund under the CRA. I was told a repair will take 28 days, which to me is not within a reasonable time and is of great inconvenience (I rely on the laptop).
I refused the repair on these grounds and requested exchange however they would not budge.
One thing I am unclear on with the CRA is who has the choice of repair or replacement? Can I demand a replacement if I don't want a repair? Or is that down to the seller?
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for a repair within a reasonable time (personally I'd say, for this fault, 3 days max to repair, 2 days good will, 5 working days or a calendar week - I can make do for that long but it's a stretch for any longer) but 28 days is in my opinion not reasonable.
Any help is appreciated.

The choice is the retailer's. You can express a preference but you don't get the ultimate say.0

Thanks, that clears up that one.
Now to debate the "reasonable time" with Currys I guess. I suspect I may have to bite the bullet and accept 28 days rather than spend 28 days arguing the toss.
Many thanks.Rich0 -
I wouldn't be surprised if the repair is actually far quicker than the 28 days quoted and Currys probably just state this timescale in all cases just in case a repair does take this long.
Do you still have the laptop?
If so, have you considered contacting the manufacturer and asking about a warranty repair?
I've had a couple of laptop repairs in the past (one Toshiba, one Dell) and both were picked up from my house then repaired and returned in about 10 days.0 -
Yeah I walked out of Currys with it - because I was unsure on the CRA.
Because it's likely to take longer to argue this out and complain (up to 7 days for a response from Currys) I may just bite the bullet and try to borrow a laptop when I need one. Inconvenient but what can you do.Rich0
