There's nothing in the news which hasn't been said before. It's the same old propaganda, except plans have been drawn up to continue paying income support, employment and support allowance, and job seekers allowance for two weeks after a claim for universal credit has been made. They will more than likely, find some way of taking it back off you at some point? There's no run on for child tax credits. This has been ruled out.

There's still a very large hole in the safety net, which shows no sign of being repaired, which the most vulnerable in soceity continue to fall through and be abandoned.

    The forgotten faces of soceity?

  • According to plans seen by the BBC managed migration will now not begin until November 2020 and will probably take 4 years (although I suspect it may be nearer 5). This is without doubt good news for those of us on the "legacy"benefits.
There are also plans to pump another few hundred million £ into the system reported that this will help stop people being worse off on UC.
    All good news.

    All good news.

But still very unfair on people who go straight onto UC without having claimed legacy benefits.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I would agree, but at least progress is being made, we will have to see now what the budget brings.

There is very little progress, in fact, there's no progress at all.

This is what the budget will bring (if you believe leaked documents):-

    https://www.housingsystems.co.uk/News/Latest-News/id/76

Leaked documents seen by the BBC outline proposals to:

Delay the UC managed-migration roll out.

Introduce a 2 week run on for Income Support, Income-Based JSA and Income-Related ESA when the claimant makes a new claim for UC.

Set a maximum deduction level for Advance Payments.

Look at how self-employed earnings are treated under UC.
    Delay managed-migration

The Government appear to be delaying the roll out of UC. This proposal does not affect the current roll out of Full Service UC across the UK - which we assume will continue as planned, but the start of the managed-migration of legacy benefit claimants on to UC that was set to start next June. The leak confirms a statement made by Esther McVey earlier this week and suggests that the pilots (due to start in the new year), will not start until summer 2019, when small batches of claimants will be moved onto UC and the managed-migration proper, ie large batches of claimants would not now start until November 2020 (instead of June 2019). This means that UC will not now be fully rolled out until Dec 2023.

As it said, any proposal does not affect the current roll out of Full Service, rather the managed migration of Legacy Benefit Claimants in those areas. Areas are still becoming Full UC areas, it's just the managed migration within those areas which is being delayed, as ever.

Yes, it is good news if you are prepared to put your life on hold, not report any health changes etc.etc, In fact, to actually be held to ransom, by the government.

For anyone who is needing to move house to a full UC area, for health reasons say, you either stay put just to remain on Legacy Benefits or you move and lose much needed financial support (and therefore, personal support). It looks like there are going to be no changes or support for a very long time. Difficult choices to be made?

There's still no mention of support for all those 'forgotten' people who fell through the massive hole in the safety net which is supposed to be, UC.

Out of sight, out of mind?

Who is campaigning for those people?

    Someone has to?

Barney - It just got up and went.

  • ^^I would venture to suggest that a lot of people on this forum will be interested in the delay for most in managed migration.
The fact that a small number will be moved across in 2019 is to be welcomed as this will give them chance to iron out any more problems before the bulk transfer starts from Nov.2020
There are many organisations campaigning re: UC have you joined any of them? I know I have.
