Confused with webmail / domain names

My friend just got a snazzy new email address and I fancied one too.
I went to fasthosts and registered a similar address to alison@pinkbananaglue.com (not the real address before anyone checks) and signed up for their 30 day free trial to see how it goes.
It's really fast, especially compared to 1and1 webmail which I use for work which is really slow.
Anyway, what is confusing me is that I don't own the domain www.pinkbananaglue.com so how can I use the email address ??
The domain name I am 'using' is not registered to anyone yet, but what happens if they do ?
Can someone explain to me in simple terms, or point me in the right direction to the right info please ?
Also, it's a 30 day free trial, not that I can find the 'opt out' section of their website for the life of me.
Thanks in advance

Emails to me@pinkbananaglue.com are sent via a Fasthosts test domainAnyway, what is confusing me is that I don't own the domain www.pinkbananaglue.com so how can I use the email address ??
You won't be able to use me@pinkbananaglue.com, so it's best to register it asap if you think you'll want to keep it after the 30 day trial. The domain name I am 'using' is not registered to anyone yet, but what happens if they do ?
See https://signup.fasthosts.co.uk/email/signup.exe and click Select for more information.0 -
Thank as every Chippy for explaining it to me in terms that I understand
