Changing Virgin Media Superhub/Router DNS Settings problem...

I have been advised to do this via a VPN support chat (due to VPN not connecting on my Smart TV)

"Please assign the following DNS server IP's in the Static DNS settings of your router

Static DNS 1: 1.1.1.1

Static DNS 2: 1.0.0.1"

Means nothing to me, but I have Googled it and still not sure how to do this - I cannot find the DNS settings within the VM Router Settings Pages

Thanks

In your circumstance you probably need to buy a new 'broadband' router, and change the VM superhub to run in 'modem mode'. Connect the two together.

You would then be able to change the DNS server settings in your new router to the values you require.

I'll have a look at mine later on when I get home.

I was messing about with port settings last week trying to get browser access to a home camera system but I don't remember seeing an option for static DNS settings in there. I'll confirm this evening for you.

You can't do this in the Virgin Superhub. You will need to get a third party router and use that with the Superhub in Modem mode...

You should be able to assign a static IP/ static DNS servers to your Smart TV. That bypasses the router completely.

Checked my hub and it absolutely can't be done.

    Edit: even in Router mode.

See all 3 posts except mine and you've got your answer in amongst them.

I did find a post on the vm.ie boards where a VM rep seemed to be suggesting that they were viewing the option to enable DNS settings as part of a product backlog. Wouldn't expect a rollout any time soon though.

I have a Virgin Hub 3 in modem mode with a TP-Link Router with an iMac connected by ethernet and Wi-Fi (for some reason best known to itself Apple requires a concurrent Wi-Fi connection for things like hand-off to other Apple devices). The relevant point here is that I can set and change DNS addresses in the computer's own network settings without needing access to the hub or router at all. I'm not entirely familiar with Windows 10 but remember back from my Windows days (from 3.1 to Vista) that you could do the same within the nightmarish manual process of setting up network access. Might there be a similar facility buried deep in Windows 10 somewhere?

On a PC you can change the network adaptor settings and force a DNS in there ... only works for that device though (or any other device that might use the PC as the "router" via Internet Connection Sharing).
