For what reason would your mother need to take out life insurance at age 87? Genuine question this - by that age I would have thought your Mum would have made provision throughout her life for whatever upcoming costs are expected that would be covered by the proceeds from the life insurance policy.0

Her life expectancy, if in average health, is I would guess about 4-5 years.
Is that an insurable risk? Expensive? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
According to the Office of National Statistics, the life expectancy for a woman in the UK is currently 82.9. If she is already 87, I wouldn’t expect anyone to offer cover.0

If you are currently over 85 but under 89 we would be happy to provide you with a quote from the one company who might be prepared to offer you cover. You would need to be under 89 at the time the cover starts.
Then goes on to say for £4,000 worth of cover for an 88 year old for whole of life policy would cost around £68.11pm

Average life expectancy for a 87 year old female is 6 years.
