Will we get tax credits?

Hi all, I wonder if you can help me figure this out.

My partner is going to be working 22 hours a week now from 14.

I was struggling to be the 16 hour worker, being self-employed I had to earn £520/month but I hadn't been able to. We have one child.

Now that he is going to bring in more money, I can take the pressure off and work fewer hours.

If we bring in under £16K will we still get tax credits?

And what about if I was able to earn more and we brought in £18K? Would we get any then?

Thank you.

  • Perhaps a daft question - is there a reason one of you can't work full time and nix the need for tax credits?

Apologies if this is the case :)

If you don't already have a claim for tax credits and your area is a full Universal credit area then you won't be able to claim tax credits, it will have to be UC. Check your area here. http://ucpostcode.entitledto.co.uk/ucdate

Do you have a current tax credit claim? Do you or your partner have any disabilities (I ask as you say you are struggling to work)?
