Comments

  • i have read that i cant legally sell the car now aswell is this true??
  • It may have been paid off but not the record not cleared. I'd speak to the person or company you bought it from in the first instance.

i bought it from a private sale the problem is i lost my V5C I got a new one but the new one a few months ago but the DVLA dont put the details of the previous owner on the V5C anymore, however i can request the details of the previous owner from them if need be.

if the previous owner does not know anything about this issue what else would i be able to do? contact VW directly? if they have not been persueing the debt does it mean it has definitely been paid off ? or maybe they have stopped caring? either way would they be likely to clear the debt if i explain to them the situation? the car is worth very little now and i doubt it would be worth it for them to take it...

I would suggest just contacting VW finance. Likely to be a clerical error as much as anything else.

On a side note I think it is madness not to spend a few quid on an hpi check when buying a car privately.

i have got one of those reports online now and it states that it has outstanding finance from VW from 2008!

I doubt anyone is able to pay off a car over 10+ years, so it's almost certainly a clerical error. I'd phone VW and find out what's happening and if they can remove the marker.

Sounds like a clerical error to me.

Never buy a car without doing a HPI check I think is the lesson to be learned going forward.
