Without wanting to add to your to-do list, you could try the "HTTPS Everywhere" extension for Firefox.

Halifax link to the KIID on a Morningstar page using unsecure HTTP - but the exact same page works fine using HTTPS (link). That's sloppy on Halifax's part, but the extension I mentioned should automatically convert and get you the HTTPS version.
