Chalk paint removal from clothes

Got soaked and went into a cafe and when I got up there were white marks on my coat (Craghopper waterproof jacket) from the chair I'd been sat on. I complained to staff and was told it was 'chalk paint' from the chair and that it was my fault for having a wet coat on! They said it would come off with water but it hasn't. Any ideas?

Could it be dry cleaned?
Failing that, I would go back to the cafe and claim off their insurance. Saying it was because your coat was wet is bunkum. You should be able to sit on a chair in a cafe without damaging your clothes!! In fact, if they knew that wet clothes could be damaged, they should have warned you/taken the chair out of service - so they've effectively admitted liability. You've acted like any sensible person would, and attempted to sort the problem out (and followed their advice) but it hasn't worked, so make a claim. Do it in writing. Send photos of the damage. If you would be replacing the item anyway, then do so and send them the receipt (yes, you're out of pocket for a while but if you would be replacing it anyway it makes no difference, and it speeds up the claim process).
We had a similar situation where my OH and I went for a coffee and the back of his suit trousers got ripped on a nail protruding from the chair. We reported it to the waiter at the time and he removed the chair, and gave us the registered address of the cafe. We had to replace the suit anyway, so we bought a new suit (similar quality to the one that was damaged) and sent the receipt with a covering letter to the address we'd been given. The claim was paid within a month. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
