Teacher filling in a tax return???

Hi
Not sure if this is in the right section, but I have been a teacher for 14yrs and starting from last year, I have been asked to fill in a tax return which resulted in me having to pay £100. Not looking forward to filing one in and getting another £100 bill to pay.
Why do I have to do this ask if a sudden? I don't consider myself a big earner. I have two dependants and an married.

I expect the £100 was a fine for being late. I think you have until 31st Jan 2019 to fill in and pay any tax due for 2017/18 otherwise you will get another £100 fine.0

If HMRC have told you to submit a tax return then you must do so or be fined for non submission.
You have the Assessment showing how the £100 was calculated?
Does the High Income Child Benefit charge affect you?
Did you have untaxed savings income over your allowance?

Hi guys, definitely was not late. All submitted in good time.
No savings, but I'll look into the 'High income child benefit charge'. I'm only a pastoral leader so not on Leadership payscale, so surprised if I am considered to have a high income.
Thanks for the input so far.0
