Stupid question? Am I a permanent uk resident if I have a British passport?

I've been working abroad, but will be returning to the UK soon.

Can I put that I'm a permanent UK resident as I have a British Passport?

My fiancee and I will be cycling through Europe to our wedding and we want to apply for a credit card so foreign currency transactions will be cheaper.

  • No if you are not living in the Uk you are not a permanent resident. You have the right to permanent residence but aren't one while living overseas.

If you are not resident you will struggle to get credit unless you have kept your existing accounts active.
The best you can hope for is a Monzo or Revolut card.

    Pretty stupid, yes!

    Residency is where you live.
Having a British passport is to do with your nationality, citizenship and a few other fairly obscure reasons.

If you live abroad permanently, you're resident abroad.

A passport does not establish residency. In addition, unless you have been financially active in the UK you will have little or no credit history and therefore a credit card application is likely to fail anyway.
