Saw this at Edinburgh Gyle Morrisons:

https://my.morrisons.com/blog/food/pick-your-own-eggs/

Large free range eggs for 22p each (or 6 for £1).

I use eggs occasionally for baking, but otherwise don't really like them and struggle to use up a box of 6, so although it's cheep-er to buy a whole box, it suits me nicely to be able to buy eggsactly how many I want.

The stacked trays looked a tad precarious, though - an accident just waiting to happen...

Quite a heavy cost penalty but if you really do only want one or two it's still less eggstravagant than the full half dozen :cheesy:

I wouldn't shell out 22p for a single egg. This price can easily be beaten.

I guess French people will think it's a cracking deal though, after all for them one egg is un oeuf.

You can fet a box of 15 for around £1.15 so at 22p its about twice the price

Thanks, but I'd need to find 14 other shoppers who also want only one egg and divvy up the box after checkout, to get it for 7.6666666p per egg. ;)

Good idea. I know Co op sell boxes of 4 which I try and buy if I want an egg but even then I rarely get through the whole box so end up throwing some out.

well, a lot of the mixed sized packed in the supermarkets will be free range ones, you just have to check the packs because they change from week to week, just look for 1UK eggs

I went to a conference Up North years ago and went to a Morrisons, where they were selling cereals like pic N Mix. So they have form on this sort of thing.

I totally get this - as I live alone/cook for one.... but this is a case where that old "in the freezer" works, if you can be bothered.

Crack an egg, whisk it with a simple fork, pop it in the freezer to freeze as "1 egg".

    Repeat for rest of box.

I'd not tell people to put stuff in a freezer usually as it takes up a lot of valuable space if it's sitting there months/all year - but for a few little eggs there's always a tiny corner they'd fit.

Of course, you still have to be of the mindset where you're not feeling "icky" about using one that's been frozen, as I know this is something for some people.
