Block Paving, Brick Paving.

Would someone give me the definative answer regarding the difference between the two please ?

I read information (on here and elsewhere) about block paving and think i know what it is, but when i've had companies in to quote me for my driveway to be 'done' i'm corrected when i use the term 'block' paved.

I would like to get my driveway, which is very large, 'paved',
By this i mean done in a herringbone-type pattern/design, with blocks/bricks that look like the shape of a house-brick - so are those classed as blocks or bricks ....... with me ??

...and so, is there a difference in their performance/lifespan/costs ?
