peugeot 207 braking systen faulty

Hi All, about two weeks ago, the temperature warning light gauge started flashing in my peugeot 207, even though the engine temperature was not raised. The flashing was coming and going for a few days. I made an appointment at the garage but then it stopped. Today, as I was driving, another warning came on, "braking system faulty"; that came on 5 or 6 times, then stopped. But I just spent 300euros getting new brake pads and shoes etc, and the brakes seem to be working fine. I feel because I m a woman, the garage really takes me to the cleaners!! I am wondering would the two lights coming on be connected, like an electrical fault, rather than a problem with the actual brakes or engine temperature? thanks !

I would guess this is a vti petrol engine. They have a well known fault where the coolant sensor leaks internally due to corrosion. The water then tracks back up the wiring loom to the ecu (electronic/engine control module) causing other issues. If caught early a replacement coolant sensor cost about £18 plus labour to fit. Making a break in the loom with an after market connector stops water tracking to the ecu if the new sensor fails in the same way.

The problem may have gone for now but one day soon it will fail completely.

Brake issue may or may not be connected to the water leaking into ecu. The rear lights are known for earth faults in the multi plug connectors. Fix for this is to run an extra earth line to the rear lights. Parts are around £5 and expect an hours labour if you can find a garage willing to do it.
