new gas meter installation cost

Hi,

I am hoping to get gas connected to my property soon and I have a quote for a new gas connection and installation etc. I know I need to get a gas meter installed but I cannot get a quote for this until I have the connection done. So has anyone had this done recently and how much did it cost just for the meter installation? Which company did you use? It seems like it used to be free but is not anymore so I would like to get a rough idea of costs before I go ahead.

Thanks.

In my area it was 'Codent' who ran the Gas line to the property - It's this supplier who issues you with your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN )- Make sure they do as nobody will give you a Gas account without it.

The Gas meter was fitted FREE by my existing Electricity supplier who were EDF -( I'd deliberately switched my Elec supply to them some months before, as I felt my previous New-Kid-on-the-Block supplier might not be up to speed with a meter installation).

Once the entire system was up and running I changed the Gas supplier to ZOG on a 2 year fix deal, which is already showing dividends

    Hi Kitty,

Contact your gas transporter to arrange for the service to be installed. Here is a link to find yours :- http://www.energynetworks.org/info/faqs/gas-distribution-map.html

You should get a choice of gas meter housing, its better all round to choose a surface mounted box, but most people choose the semi concealed meter box as there is less visual impact on the look of the house. But the surface mounted box is the most common and standard type for types of meters to be installed.

When you get a price, you could probably save money by digging the trench your self.

Once you have a date, contact a supplier of your choice and request a gas meter to be installed. Some will charge, some wont, some will fit it on the day, some will not.
