Hi, we were call by Barclays Bank on this number this morning wanting to review our account. Smelt a rat as their ID security check was i can confirm the last 4 number of your current account. Asked them to confirm a random DD payment which they ignored and asked for my DoB. Ended the call.......
Redialed the number - an automated message saying you were call earlier and may get a call back and if you want to opt out call an 0333 number (which i havent done)
Google shows 08000852652 has been treated suspiciously for a few years now.
If genuine then Barclays security check is shockingly poor.
If a scam number why havent BT/Offcom or whoever else is responsible taken it down/prosecute the account holder ?
Hope this is warning to others

Rang Barclays - It is a genuine Barclays number but it (somehow) has been hijacked by fraudsters. They confirmed the security check is not we can tell you the last 4 digits of your account number.0
-
Doesn't have to be hijacked, it's easy to spoof a phone number. Search for "Presentation Number".0
-
Yes, it sounds dodgy.
Fraudsters have the ability to spoof outgoing numbers, so a call or even a text message that appears to be from a trusted source could be false.
If you're in any doubt, best to hang up, check the number on this website https://www.barclays.co.uk/security/phone-number-lookup/ and if you want to call back for your own peace of mind do so on the *verified* number or on the generic Customer Services number which you'll find on the back of your card which I believe is 03457345345.
The kind of information bank staff should be able to provide if challenged include the *last* (not first) four digits of your *card number* (not account number) or part of your postcode. But again, if in any doubt, just hang up. Bank staff are used to this and won't be offended!: )0 -

Either check your card and post the correct number or don't bother mentioning a telephone number at all.0 -
What's the difference between believing and knowing?0

The validity of the information0

Not true I know that the Earth is flat I know it for absolute certainty and therefore I believe it0
