BMW servicing prices

Hi all,
This is something of a heads-up for any members who own a BMW (as I do) and use BMW dealerships for servicing. BMW have a number of service packs customers can buy at a standard price. You pay upfront or you pay monthly and you can choose any dealership you like to carry the work out. BMW also advertises a menu of maintenance products for customers who don't take the service packs. Again, it's a case of choosing your preferred dealer. However, despite these being standard products, the price for the same product varies from dealer to dealer. I found a 12% difference between services at my 2 local dealerships. I asked BMW UK and the dealerships to provide an explanation because customers shouldn't have to shop around to avoid being ripped off. No response. So folks, the message is to either do your homework before ordering a service or if you have the choice, go to an independent garage.
You should contact the daily mail with this. Its the sort of thing they like to get outraged about too. They'll come round and take a picture of you beside your BMW with a Sadface.
As has been said, simple explanation.
* Servicing packs are bought via the dealer from BMW UK.
* Servicing at local dealers varies because they are franchises and can set their own prices.0 -
Jonesya,
Great, thanks. Good point about Amazon, never thought of that.
I guess the best way would be to find out who makes the parts before they go into a bmw cardboard box?
Will look into the links provided, cheers.Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience? Why? So you can argue with them?0 -

The filters are made by Mahle and have both Mahle and BMW logos and part numbers on them.
For example the air filter for my car BMW Part Nr. 13718518111 / Mahle part Nr. LX2796/1 costs £61.62 from a BMW dealer.
I buy them from EuroParts (as per my previous post) at £24.67 - identical but without the BMW logo.
You pay your money and take your choice.0
