Hi, in April of last year I picked up my new car. It was a very bitter sweet moment, as the only way I was able to get this car was through tragic circumstances. Anyway because the car meant so much to me, I wanted to protect the paintwork from stone chips etc as best I could. So I contacted an established company close to me who did a service called PPF on cars. Basically, it is a clear plastic film that is put onto the body work of the car to protect it from stone chips, tree sap, bird droppings etc. Because it is such a time consuming job and it has to be done right first time, it can only be applied by accredited people, which this company was, and it also has a 10yr warranty.
Anyway, when I was cleaning my car just over 2wks ago now, I noticed a blemish on the front of my car on the PPF, its about the size of a 2pence piece. So I phoned the company to discuss taking my car in to get it looked at and possibly repaired, however when I dialled the number it sad "sorry this number is no longer in service". So I rang a mobile number that I had for the owner of the business, unfortunately I got no answer so I left a voicemail message. This was 2wks ago and ive still not heard anything. I have also sent a few emails and messaged the owner via facebook messenger, and still not heard anything back. So I decided to drive to the premises, only to find that they were not there anymore, I spoke to the new people that were in the shop and they just said they took it over about a month ago, and had no idea where the previous owner was.
I have contacted the company who supply the PPF to the person who put it on my car for me, but they tell me there is nothing they can do, because it is not me that is their customer, it is the person who put it on for me. I explained that I have been trying to get in touch with them for over 2wks now and not had any luck. I was also concerned about what happens as regards the 10yr warranty if the company concerned has dissolved etc, and they said unfortunately the warranty would be void, because again...it is the person who applied the PPF that I have the warranty with, not the company who make the PPF.
I hope all this makes sense, because I have no idea what to do next please could anyone five me any advice

Many companies will have gone bust within a 10 year guarantee period. I personally think your PPF is a waste of money. Some manufactuers guarantee their cars paintwork for over 6 years.0

this is true, but manufactuers will not guarantee paintwork against stone chips etc, which is what this PPF does.0

Your contract was with the person who applied the PPF, not his suppliers. If he has gone out of business, there is not much you can do. The warranty only has meaning in the sense that he is around to honour it. If he isn't, it's void. The suppliers have no responsibility to you at all.
I have sympathy for you, but ultimately this is 'one of those things'. Take it on the chin and move on.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
did you pay by credit card if so and I imagine it is over the £ threshold you could try a section 75 claim against the credit card co0

Your contract was with the [STRIKE]person[/STRIKE] limited company who applied the PPF, not [STRIKE]his[/STRIKE] their suppliers. If [STRIKE]he has[/STRIKE] they have gone out of business, there is not much you can do.
This is why "We'll see you right" warranty is worthless. The only kind of warranty worth anything is one backed by an independent insurer who you can trust to still be extant through the duration of the policy.0 -
It's a fairly important distinction. Even if the OP tracks down the individual who owned the company, he has zero liability. If the limited company has been closed, it has ceased to exist and the liability and warranty have ceased with it. It is "dead".
