Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - Email / WhatsApp

Hi all,

I recently updated my Samsung S7 Edge as it told me there was a new update pending.

Since the download, my outlook email no longer works. It's linked to my Samsung Email. Before when I used to get an email, it just flashed up with the icon at the top. It no longer does this. I physically have to click on Apps, Samsung, Email, open it up and then refresh to get emails. Is anyone else having this problem? Samsung Email has been updated too.

And again, since the download, my WhatsApp messages no longer just pop up like they used to. I have to click on the WhatsApp icon and they then all ping through at once. Anyone else with the same issue?

I know it's not the end of the world but it is highly annoying. I wish I could just get the emails and WhatsApp messages pop through as normal. Is there any way of doing this?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled both but it's made no difference.

Thanks to anyone who might be able to help.

Could be a power saving thing. Check under either battery or power saving (I don't have a Samsung) and make sure that those apps are set to ignore any power saving settings.

You need to find the Ignore battery optimisation settings option. Add in there which apps you always want to receive notifications from. I had a similar problem and I think that's how I fixed it.

I have tried both of them but it doesn't seem to work.

I wonder if EE will be able to help me as I am contract with them.

Check the notification settings for your apps. Make sure they are turned on for the apps you want them on.

The network won't help with third party apps, I use to work for one on the help desk. We were told to tell people to contact the app dev.

WhatsApp and Email are both set to allowed but neither still work. I've switched the phone on and off. I've even deleted both apps and downloaded them again.

I guess I will just have to manually check for them. Sigh.

    Thanks for your help folks.

Has anything in the notification settings changed since the update? Maybe they're both set not to notify now?

As I said earlier, I had a similar issue with my Huawei P9 Lite ... I'm sure it was the Ignore Battery Optimisation setting which fixed it for me. (i.e. set those apps as Allowed, which means they'll ignore battery optimisations and keep running in the background).

WhatsApp is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it pings the new messages through. Other times I have to click on it and check.

Email is well and truly stuffed.

Hopefully the next update will sort it all out.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, tried them all, nothing seems to work.
  • I'm a app developer by myself. In latest Android, it comes with a lot of battery optimization techniques, which will make some app broken (including mine).

I would like to help you on this but I don't have enough privilege to post link.

Can you google search "Why don't I get notifications? Whatsapp" It will bring you to Whatsapp official FAQ page. Their advice on how to resolve notification issue, seems pretty valid and worth a try.
