O/S Daily Thursday 11th October 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, thinking especially of the poorlies and the people caring for the poorlies x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, wet and windy but mild here.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, I'll wake him and see if he wants to run this morning, not the best of conditions - so we'll see.
Dinner last night was egg, beans, sausage and chips/jacket potato. I remembered to get the beef out to defrost last night, so tonight it's stew and dumplings, with mash and veg.
Work wasn't as bad but moral isn't just low it's 6 foot underground. The management don't seem to be listening or giving any support. We have a particular issue at the moment and at present we're basically being told we know we need to ban this person but we're not sure - so in the meantime the staff and other customers are being left to get on with it with no support. Staff are going down with stress - not great when we already are understaffed. I'm now on days' off but have a training session this morning, so will attend that and then get on with the rest of my day and my days' off, I'm working Saturday too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Well, it was indeed a lovely day yesterday, probably didn't reach 19 degrees but at 6.30pm there were folk sat outside having a drink and enjoying the sunshine, this in Glasgow in the middle of October!
Really enjoyed Kevin Bridges, thanks for the clip Gers. Dinner was good too, a chicken salad and halloumi fries. Didn't get to bed until after 12 so it'll be a long day today!
Glad you had a good break Rosy, bet Lyla was pleased to see you.
Hugs to you TA and Holly.
Hope you're OK tru.
Did you get the car windows fixed RR? Any news on the police catching the scum?
Need to go shopping after work as DS1 is coming tomorrow with the DGC.
Have a happy Thursday, take care. XX0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
Especially thinking of the TA's, Holly and Lamewolf
Speky hope everything went well for our Gran
Lovely day yesterday, went out for lunch, didn't have to cook or wash up
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning all
It was so warm here last night I tossed and turned for ages trying to sleep but it was just to hot, mid October and still hitting over 20 deg each day :j
Camelot my windows are being done today (fingers crossed) its a very strange sensation driving along with wobbly windows :rotfl:
I had a long phone call with the police yesterday I have had to send photos in of my car and proof of what it has cost me, they seem to be determined to get him over this, and are gathering evidence from all involved.
Some kind of pasta dish tonight with a dried / cured sausage thing we bought in waitrose ages ago and have not used so I think we need to start on it, will do mushrooms and crème fraiche with it and some garlic bread.
Need to do a wash tonight too so that I have a work t-shirt for tomorrow, we work at least five days in a row and only get three t-shirts
Right better get on have good days all xx
Thoughts as always to the TA's xxx0 -
Going to have to go back up hospital today, picc line is rubbing something chronic, I only just worked out when I was thingking about it it's all to do with the position of your arm when they stick the dressing on [ how dumb am I?]
OH has to have his chest x-rayed, so we can merrily trip up there together, after which the car needs a service and we'll see if we can fit in Venom at some point...I have my mask ready for outside world
Wil clear some stuff from front garden today, shame to do it, the geraniums are doing really well still, but I need to throw some HM compost around and plant out some crocosmia for next year and some cyclamen for this. Got a perfect spot for those under the triffid rosemary.
nmlc, I definitely dont miss those days, management issues always ruined what should have been fairly straightforward jobs, once you took out the conflicting instructions, time pressure, politics and micro managing....camelot, galsgow? sunny?!!Kevin Bridges is very funny, i envy you...SO, no washing or cooking, I can totally get behind that one
good news red ruby. Hope your gran is beter sperky. Nanny hope you're better too, along with AOD, poppy. Hows your knee OB? And Lainey?
Hope Holly had a better night...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Morning
Back home finally to a nice quiet and perfectly formed bedroom...my ownActually saying that I think my couple of nights away have made me realise I could probably do with a new mattress. I can certainly do without the expense at the moment but I could really feel a big difference so I need to start some research. Its such a minefield mattress buying so any recommendations would be appreciated.
Plumber here this morning to sort out my motorised valve.....oooo errr missus I know....:D hope he can sort it as at the moment the heating comes on with the water and as a hot menopausal bird that just doesn't work for me.
Didnt hear from holly yesterday but she has her appointment today at the other hospital so hoping that we can get some catch up time. Usually when i dont hear from her its because she is very low so worried that yesterday probably was a tough one for hercsarina you asked about the meds they are having to slowly wean her off one of them so that she can have her breast operation and its this one that hits her hardest not having which explains the prolonged pre op stay
Righr best go and clear some space in the garage so that the plumber can do his stuff. Have a good day all especially TA

Redruby, we used to provide 5 polo shirts for the groundstaff, plus trousers, sweatshirts etc, it was all replaced every year. But we had one worker who smelled dreadful. As the boss it fell to my lot to speak to him about it a few times which was very difficult. When he left he returned lots and lots of unopened shirts etc!
It's a misty start in North Yorkshire today, hopefully it will burn off and we can get out for a walk in the hills.0 -
Morning everyone.
We had a glorious sunset last night although the red sky forecasts an awful three days ahead. Another deluge is starting this afternoon.
Oban retail area is still under water. I tried to ring M&S yesterday but the phone lines are dead. Building on a flood plain never works out!
This afternoon I've got a teaching session. For this one I'm down to one student as three already achieved the unit in school and one never turns up. Teaching one is just as challenging as working with more.
Apart from a bit of shopping that'll be my day. I want to stock up on milk and vegs and then I can be OK and ready for the weather.
My thoughts are with all the poorlies and their families. It's lovely to hear updates.
Happy Thursday to all.0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start nmlc, hope your work find some solutions soon x
Overcast and breezy here today but very mild, yesterday was gorgeous and I am hoping today gets as warm.
My knee is ok thanks Taff, the Tiger Balm certainly seems to be easing it a tad, I did manage to get a fair bit of exercise into Lu yesterday with lunging and inhand work, might even try a little sit on her today :j
Other than that it’s the usual Thursday shop for fresh veg etc and I have some work to do for my least favourite client, they seem to think that because I’m self-employed that it’s ok to contact me well out of ‘office’ hours, it was 8pm last night and yes, he expected the phone to be answered
Thinking of the TA’s and Holly gentle vibes being sent their way.
Nelski we have a JL mattress, pocket sprung, medium support. Had it 5 years and still v comfy, it replaced a memory foam one which I found far too hot.
Hugs to all poorlies or those caring for loved one, have a good day folks x0 -
Good morning to all and wishing peace for anyone struggling.
Nelski - we had the cheapest mattress for years and years. In the end it gave me bruises from just sleeping because the spring were too near the surface! We went to John Lewis and bought a pocket spring mattress, it has been great. It really does make a difference. They have a wide range of prices.
Last night went to exercise class and I am aching all over this morning, but for good reasons. I sometimes think it is a waste of money but I know I won’t “turn up” to a dvd and I really like the social aspect, so it is staying in the budget for now.
No sales this morning so I will focus on listing more. Nearly forgot to tell you all I did do my egg free baking. I made these traybakes a bit like bakewell cross crumble bars. They were nice! Mr Hedgesparrow is going to do a shop tonight on his way home as I have nearly run out of coffee and can’t function without it! So I’ll see if there is anything else we can’t do without.Grocery Challenge £114.22/ £1100 -
Morning chums
Dolly has been walked and we are getting ready to go to the bike shop .Yesterday was a disaster and I should have stayed in bed we went to see the motorbikes quite a way from us and the shop was closed despite it not saying that on the website and there was no parking so i had to pay grrr I came home to an email from TUI to say our flight to Turkey in May was cancelled and i needed to rearrange or cancel , we are doing 5 holidays this year to celebrate mine and DH 50th birthdays 1 for each decade this one was at the invitation of friends we met on a cruise they live in Wales so we dont get to see them often I will need to call them in a bit to see if we can move it by a day .
