when does esa payment become a pending transaction?

Hi,

I'm abroad so don't have access to my letters etc, I should be processed an ESA payment Friday which means today it should show as a pending transaction (meaning i can relax knowing it's coming in).

Money usually doesn't become available in my account until 6am as I'm with HSBC... what time today should I expect to see my next ESA payment appear as a pending transaction in my account?

I've never seen pending transactions in my bank, neither does my daughter. Payments from DWP take 3-4 working days to arrive in your bank once they've been sent. Should be today or tomorrow, providing it was sent Friday.


Looking back at your previous posts i see this isn't your first ESA payment. When do you usually receive your money? Whatever day that is, when you,ll have your next payment. ESA is paid every 2 weeks, so count from your last payment. I receive mine on a Wednesday.

My apologies if you already know this - I'm just flagging this up as it's a frequent source of overpayments. I'm guessing this is just a temporary absence (less than 4 weeks) which you told the DWP about, as ESA is normally not paid if you are not in Great Britain unless it's for less than 4 weeks. It can be paid during specified longer absences - for example, when you have gone abroad to receive NHS funded medical treatment, or you are with your partner who is serving in the armed forces. The thing that brought this into my head when I looked at this post was that I was recently in contact with someone who was overpaid ESA because she went abroad for a very lengthy period and didn't realize she was no longer entitled. The DWP had found out about her absence by comparing either passport control records or flight bookings - we aren't sure which yet.
I hope I haven't caused any offence - I know that plenty of people on ESA go abroad on short trips and remain entitled throughout. The law allows ESA to be paid during those temporary absences.

They must have suspected something if they found out from trawling through passport or flight bookings, and as they had been away for more than 28 days they would not qualify for payments unless they has gone abroad fro upto 26 weeks for medical treatment.

ESA can be paid indefinitely during a temporary absence (and not just for 26 weeks) if your absence is in connection with NHS funded treatment at a hospital outside Great Britain or if you are the family member of a serving member of the armed forces. And you need the agreement of the DWP before you go.
The 26 week rule applies if your absence is unlikely to exceed 52 weeks and it's either for arrangements to treat a dependent child or solely for arrangements to treat a condition related to your limited capability for work which began before you left Great Britain. (See regs 151-5 of the 2008 ESA regs and regs 88-92 of the 2013 ESA regs.)
