Buyer from abroad accidently made purchase.

I am worried. I was contacted by a buyer from abroad today asking me to pay the costs to ship to him via the global shipping programme. I told him that I could not do this. At about 9pm he went ahead and bought it and paid straight away. It is an expensive train set, costing over £100.
I booked it into myhermes straight away and contacted the buyer to let him know. He came straight back and said that he had bought it by accident and wants his money back. I then went to try to cancel it on myhermes and crazily it says that they have already delivered it, even though they are picking it up from my house tomorrow. I therefore cannot cancel it.
I do not know what to do now. The buyer entered into a contract when they made the purchase. Do I refund and just keep the postal costs or should I just send it?
Grateful for any advice.

Wait for one of the experts as I use ebay very little. This has all the hallmarks of a scam. Don't do anything hastily.
How did he pay, by one of those methods which he can reverse by any chance?0 -

He paid via Paypal. The parcel is getting picked up tomorrow, so not sure whether I should let it go or not.Mortgage Free in 3-T2 : Started at £151,000 Nov. 2009 Mortgage Free Oct 1st 2015

I would cancel the purchase and the Hermes parcel and relist. You will get your fees reimbursed so it's no loss to you.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

I will contact Hermes tomorrow. I could not cancel the parcel collection, as it said in my account that it had already been delivered, even though it hasn't even been picked up.Mortgage Free in 3-T2 : Started at £151,000 Nov. 2009 Mortgage Free Oct 1st 2015

If you really cannot cancel the pickup pass them a small package you don't mind losing.
If you send the real item you will need to pay to get it back, and risk the buyer sending back something else if the transaction appears dodgy.
Fingers crossed you can cancel it though. Make sure you block the buyer.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I assume this has been sent via the GSP (although I might be confused) in which case I would certainly not send a different product which may well get picked up at the ebay hub- and mark OP as a scammer!
Buyers can cancel orders- I think many get a shock when they see the GSP shipping costs- as a private seller this does not have to be accepted , but it is easier to cancel before sending rather than risk an item being damaged later.
Re the Hermes tracking- this sounds completely odd- so get in touch with them ASAP , try social media, anything and get that label cancelled.
Meanwhile cancel the sale as buyer requested', i would not be shipping anything once buyer has requested it be cancelled- this should still be possible via GSP, if not call ebay and ask them to do it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I cancelled the sale and contacted Hermes, who are refunding me the postage. It was frustrating at the time, but all sorted out now. Thanks to everyone that helped
