Buildings insurance between exchange and completion for FTB

So this may be me being daft, but I know I need buildings insurance from the date of exchange, after which it'll be two weeks to completion.
Do I just get regular insurance and have it start at date of exchange? And fill in the form as if I'm living there? Can I get contents insurance in one of the many bundled offers too? I'm aware this won't cover my stuff until it's in the new house but will it matter that I have contents insurance for my current rental property elsewhere (which I intend to cancel on moving)?
I've seen some companies offering specialist exchange to completion insurance, but they don't seem to offer cover it if the property is vacant (which it is, the seller does not live there). Does that have any impact either?
The most common advice seems to be to transfer it over via your current buildings insurance but as a first time buyer I don't have one. Do I just need to speak to a broker? I can't be the only person to have ever done this but nothing online seems to fit right.

Try not to overthink it. We got buildings and contents insurance as one policy which started on the date of exchange. Have a look on comparison websites and get some quotes. Make sure any extras you need are included in your chosen policy

Do some research on the best buildings & contents insurance for your needs, and have it start from the date of exchange. That's it.They are an EYESORES!!!!0

Also make sure you check your mortgage offer for requirements. I found that some of the cheaper policies didn’t include theft, riot and whatever else our lender stipulated.0
