2nd hand MacBook Insurance?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a MacBook Air second hand from an old work colleague, who in turn had purchased the item form new in Jan 2017.

The laptop is still within warranty, however without proof of purchase I can't seem to get any decent insurance anywhere - I recently had some software installed at an Apple store who confirmed it was a) not a stolen product and b) there was no damage.

Although the easy solution is to have proof of purchase sent to me by my old colleague; I am no longer in contact with him, and he is working abroad.

Can anyone suggest either a method of getting this insured or an insurer that accepts something not bought from new with decent cover still...?

I dont think tou can, to be honest. There is no proof age age for a start.
I would just self insure. Put an amount to one side each month to cover or at least help with anry repair csts in the future

Why do you need a specific product, as this should be covered under your home contents?

It could only be covered for accidental damage under contents insurance.

Why? It would be covered for any insurable peril, as long as AD / PP cover were in force. The level of cover on a contents policy would certainly be higher than that of a specific gadget insurance product.

You cant insre say a big tv against breakdown on a contents policy, only accidental damage, same with computers etc.
Op should ask his contents insurers

You wouldn't be able to insure it against breakdown on a contents policy, no, however a lot of gadget policies only insure breakdown for mobiles phones, e.g., https://www.gadget-cover.com/media/terms/Zenith_Online_Gadget_Policy_1_October_2018.pdf and don't cover for laptops to this effect.

It may be best to self-insure against breakdown, unless you can get a good warranty with the purchase?
