Displacement allowance question

Hi,
If you are promised a displacement allowance as part of a house insurance claim, when should you expect that to be paid to you? We have been told that one is forthcoming, but have had no payment as yet, and have had to rely on family and friends to help us out financially as our costs are significantly higher than we normally budget for. The original loss adjustor indicated that we would have had it by now, but every time I ask they just say they will talk to the insurers about getting it sorted.
