Bosch Neff Siemens have had major issues with there dishwashers also with fire risks
The company issued an alert in July 2011 about a problem with 632,000 machines, sold under the Bosch, Siemens and Neff brands.

Despite efforts to contact customers, the owners of 479,000 machines have not responded and so their dishwashers have not been repaired.

I have a Bosch dishwasher older than 2011, not part of the recall. I purchased a Bosch tumble dryer after the Indesit was refunded, no complaints and although it was dearer it's worth the extra.

Some say to contact the manufacturer, and some to contact AO.

I have read some of the articles on this website which seemed to state that as my contract is with AO it should be them that I contact, but there seems to be mixed views on that here.

I don't think this is a problem that can be fixed by someone other than a dishwasher engineer or technician. There is not much information on the web about it, and nothing in the manual, but most hits on the web make some reference to the "recirculation valve in the heat exchanger".

I will take another look at the machine to see if it is something simple.

As I've said, I am happy with a repair, but would not be happy to pay for it given the cost of the machine, it's two year warranty, and the relatively short time I've had it. It has not had heavy use.

Moneyineptitude - can you explain why you think it sounds like a user error?

    Many thanks.

I just think it's very likely too much food waste has entered the machine, causing a blockage over time. As I said, though, contact either the retailer or the manufacturer and I fully expect it to be swiftly fixed without any charge. You won't be getting a refund though.

Do check the error code, as I said earlier, it could be the difference between use of your dishwasher now and waiting for any engineer to visit.
  • Thanks Moneyinept - you seem very knowledgeable about dishwashers! Do you know how I might check to see if there is a blockage? As you say, if it's a simple enough job and I can fix it myself then it will save the hoo-hah of getting an engineer out and yapping on about warranties etc.

The code is E19. There's nothing in the manual about it and very little online :(

You state you have a manufactures warranty. AO will do nothing but suggest you contact the manufacturer as they have terrible CS.

This could have all be sorted (an appointment) by now.
  • This suggests that it AO I should be dealing with, irrespective of terrible customer service. Just trying to be in possession of the legal facts before I start a claim.

  • Can't post snagits. This is the advice from Resolver:
    Manufacturer’s warranty

The retailer may ask you to contact the manufacturer directly. However, your contract is with the retailer and not the manufacturer and it is therefore the retailer's responsibility to resolve and rectify the issue.

Putting aside that this is AO we are talking about, you need to understand that the views here aren't mixed or that some say this and some say that.

    It is very straightforward.

The warranty and any claim on it should be directed at the supplier of the warranty - ie the manufacturer Bosch.

Your Consumer Rights and any claim you want to make against those should be directed to the supplier of the appliance - ie AO.

People frequently confuse warranty and consumer rights. You have the choice of either but you need to be clear on where to go and what you need to do.

You also need to understand you have dealt with one of the worst in terms of after-sales service. It may be easier to deal with Bosch and the warranty.

Failure in the heater - the error code means that the water has not heated up within the normal time.

Some error codes mean blockages so you can clean out the filter/pipes etc but this one is definitely for an engineer.

If Bosch have a warranty then give them a call (with your purchase details handy) and they should fix it!

    Thanks.
