Berry plants

Options
As a newcomer to gardening, I planted raspberry, Goosberry and blackcurrant plants in late spring this year and not one of them has produced any fruit! Were my expectations too high or have I done something wrong?!

Expectations too high. They need to settle in & make feeding roots, give them chance
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

Blackcurrants and Gooseberries wont fruit until 2nd year, as will Summer raspberries. Autumn raspberries fruit in 1st year if they planted early enough. My autumn ones I got late last year fruiting as we speak but my summer ones arent but I knew that.

I got some more autumn raspberries coming next month. If you need more I recommend Polka very large raspberries and one of best croppers

With summer raspberries you cut old wood down ones that fruited that year, and new growth this year will fruit next year. Autumn ones you cut down late Winter
  • agree with Savemoney - i planted some gooseberries and autumn raspberries 2 years ago - nothing last year but this year i've had a few gooseberries and there's raspberries still forming! think you just need to let them establish for a year and keep them mulched then wait for next year :) you may or may not need to prune too depending on the type and how old they are, so best have a look online for what and how. good luck! it'll be worth the wait :)

Mulch can be compost, spent compost (old compost), manure (well rotted), grass clipping or old leaves. Last year I mulched mine with horse manure and straw. I got a good crop of raspberries Summer (Mailing promise) and now Polka autumn variety
