Private Parking Ticket - living abroad

I don't live in the UK but have an old car which I leave there for use when visiting. We got a private parking ticket sent to us just after we left the country and when we visited again 3 months later had the original PCN, 3 reminders and a debt collectors letter.

Not read any of the FAQs on here. So called Met Parking Services who said we could appeal online and send copy of our boarding card for the flight. Did so on 30 July then got another Debt collector letter the following week. After more emails Met Parking replied on 29 Aug to say "passing on to the correct dept". Have emailed three more times and they just don't reply. Can't complain through POPLA because Met Parking haven't yet rejected the Appeal so don't have the 10 digit ref no.

Original fine £60 if paid in 2 weeks. Offered £60. Debt Collectors not called off by Met Parking. Debt collectors said settle at £100 instead of the £160 they had demanded. We paid rather than get more Debt Collector letters.

Advice anyone?

More fool you, then. What do you think was going to happen, especially if you give them your overseas address for correspondence? The answer is NOTHING. So you have not only thrown your money away, you have helped fund the whole scam.

    Live and learn.

Next time, come here first before you pay a bunch of scammers. You have been well and truly scammed, and I concur with pogofish that you are a mug for paying.
