HSBC and faster payments?

I made a transfer last night around 7:30pm from my HSBC account to an external account of mine, but to my surprise, it said it was too late for that payment.


Is this normal for HSBC?

Was it a first payment? If so, it's possible it's got flagged for a fraud check

Yes - thought that was the case. It was a first payment to a new beneficiary.


Wasn't clear that it was going through that stage, as it gave the impression I missed the cut off.

I suspect that what it means is that as it needs to be manually checked that couldn't happen at the time of day when you did the payment and would have to wait until staff are next on site - but it should still go through by the end of the next working day to meet the payment services regulations timescale.
