Bank Given My Details Out

Options
I took out breakdown cover with Green Flag in November 2017 and paid by debit card for the year. I have just received a renewal from them which they say is on continuous payment (which I didn't request by the way)!! They say they will take the money from my card ending in ****.

Now about 6 weeks ago I thought I had lost my purse and so I cancelled my card with the bank and received a new one. The four digits quoted on my breakdown renewal are from my NEW card. How do Green Flag know my new card details without me telling them?????

They'll have come from the bank in order to continue the CPA. The change of card doesn't prevent a CPA.

You'll have agreed to the CPA upon application. If you don't want a CPA, make sure you cancel it.

I don't recall agreeing to a CPA as I always say no to automatic renewal. Must have been in the small print. I will cancel tonight.

When you sign up to Green Flag you agree to automatic renewal.

As you have agreed to automatic renewal it isn't unreasonable for the bank to supply the correct details for the company to use - if that is what has actually happened.

Like you, I dislike automatic renewal, so each year when I pay Green Flag I make it clear that I don't want it. They then cancel it on their system, as automatic renewal is their default, and that is in their terms and conditions. :)
