How do i apply for job seekers or find out if im elegible?

I left University yesterday and am now looking for work. Previous to University I worked a mixture or 25 -37 hrs a week for 3 years. How can I check if I can claim? Never done it before?

Thanks

Looking at your other thread here. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5906429/can-you-claim-job-seekers-if-you-leave-uni-early

Did you contact your local CAB for a benefits check? Did you also check if your area is a full Universal credit area? http://ucpostcode.entitledto.co.uk/ucdate

For Contributions based JSA check your NI records here. https://www.gov.uk/check-national-insurance-record

Since you have 3 children you will not be able to apply for Universal Credits. (sorry, had forgotten this when replying to your previous thread)

So you will need to apply for contribution based JSA.

    Follow the links here:

    https://www.gov.uk/jobseekers-allowance

When you complete the form I would suggest that you tick the boxes on the form to be assessed for both contribution based JSA and income based JSA.

Not sure you would be eligible for income based JSA as well as contribution based JSA because of your partner working and her student loans but you might as well try.

From what you have said about your previous work history then you should be at least be entitled to contribution based JSA.

You need to inform the council that you are no longer a student as you will now only be eligible for the 25% single person's discount.

Don't worry about the details just follow the link and do what it says and tell the council that you are no longer a student (the latter is called a change of circumstances - as there may be a form on your local council website that you can complete for this)
