Shower runs cold when heating is on

Hi all,
Since I've turned on my central heating the last couple of days, I have noticed that the shower will be working fine and then go ice cold for about 10-20seconds then go back to full temperature and will randomly go cold again at some point; warm spells are longer than the cold.
It is worth noting it rarely did this when the heating was off, if at all.
The basin next to the shower seems to run hot constantly.
Any ideas?
