Jeez 50p, i read your post and thought i had typed it without realising. Spookily i talked with my folks tonight- they knew i had probs but had no idea how difficult i was findin it to cope. Have lost 2 stone in about 6 weeks i reckon!
Anyway they are helping me by letting me use some of my inheritance to pay off one of my biggest debts which will make a massive difference to me on a monthly basis.
Not ashamed to say i cried in front of them tonight- didnt want to but when i hugged my mum i just "went."
Anyway all the best mate, i am rootin for ya.

All the best 50p. I think you're being very brave telling the family. I'm the sort who'd hide my problems from as many as possible, and can't imagine being able to share with the family - but I'm certain you're doing the right thing. Keep us posted.
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!
  • well done in facing up to your problems, they say a problem shared is a problem halved, i really hope telling your parents takes some of the pressure off.
Also you can channel your addictive personality to money saving
    Good Luck

I'm a little worried about the denial that you only gamble when u've been drinking, 29k is alot of money to do that whilst only on the drinking terms. Are you being completely honest with yourself about that?

Yes. I honestly believe I am. I'm not going to sit here and say I've never gambled sober, that would be a huge fib (although I can't remember that last time I did), but the problem for me is I gamble to excess when I've been drinking.

The whole debt isn't from gambling, but please don't think I'm trying to detract from the fact that I have a problem. I know I do, unfortunately I've probably got several!
As for the debt, its not going to go away overnight and its going to be a long slog btu the main thing is not to worry about it, the more u worry the more likely u'll gamble and the more debt u'll get in. I wouldn't suggest cutting away ur life, personally i believe u just need to get back to a normal life and start chipping away at the debt without losing a 'normal' life...if that makes sense

Makes perfect sense Will, almost as if you'd been spying on me for the last couple of years! Again it's not just gambling but everything. I would burry my head in the sand and continue to spend because it was easier to do that than face reality. I guess that's pretty typical of people in debt tho, and certainly doesn't help matters.

Thanks for your post mate, and everyone elses. Really does mean alot. While I'm not looking forward to tomorrow one bit your kind words are really comforting.

I think my mother already has a suspision, and the fact I suspect she suspects (if that makes any sense!) has almost made me avoid her to a certain extent. Which to be honest, is completely unforgivable on my behalf, and one of the reasons I've been so down.

Good luck and keep to the plan.

Our debt is hidden from almost everyone and it makes it harder but circumstances are such that we prefer it this way if that makes any sense.

Except for avoiding people - I hate that so much. My parents will be the first to be told when it is over. I just want it to be over as quickly as possible and am trying harder to make it go faster.

Wow. I just read your thread mate and it is rather spooky, even up to a couple of things I never mentioned in in my post which you touched on in yours. Really pleased for you, and hope things continue to look up. I never really cry, but already have shed a few tears over this.
