Unknown Energy supplier.

Hi all,

Unsure if This is the right board. Moved into a rented property in January. Landlord passed over the details for EDF stating they were the supplier. Contacted EDF and they state that our electricity board was showing as decommissioned on the national utilities database. ( old Doctors surgery converted into 2 flats, one of the boards has obviously been decommissioned as a result)

Long story short we have contact just about every energy supplier and they all state that we need to contact our previous supplier to move over to them but no one can say who it is because the board serial is showing as decommissioned. We have even contacted western power and they are no help.

We have kept all correspondence from everyone we have been in contact with. The Landlord keeps asking if I have got the eclectricty supply sorted and I'm tired of going around in circles and being passed from pillar to post.

Does this lay with the Landlord to sort or us a tenant. I don't know of any other way of sorting and I'm tired of the Landlord acting like this is my issue. He seems to think no one has paid electricity here for the past 6 years (when it was converted) any help would be appreciated. I dont mind paying but im not burning up all my free time sorting something he should of before we moved in.

Thanks

Your interest is to limit the liability to have to pay for 9 months of energy that you have consumed. When you talk about your electricity board, I assume you mean the meter. Hopefully you took a meter reading in January, and monthly/quarterly since then. Does your consumption seem reasonable?

If there are now 2 flats, can you find out the situation of the other supply & meter

If there is any doubt you need to establish that the meter you are looking at serves just your flat.

Keep taking regular readings, and estimate how much you could be billed for.

If and only if the conversion was messed up.

If the supplier has just logically disconnected the mpan later for no good reason (it can happen!) or something else is occuring then the tennat is responsible (though it can get a little blurry).

OP, if you want to message me your serial I can have a look and see if it is recorded attached anywhere (in an unoficcal capacity). Also look and see the status of any other flats and give a comment on what may be going on.
